Heather LockwoodHARBOR SPRINGS — A Harbor Springs futsal league is starting up this winter and will be open to first graders through adults, according to a Harbor Springs Public Schools news release.
The league is to start Saturday, Nov. 19, with an assessment play date to ensure the teams are equally balanced, according to the release. Actual game play is to start Monday, Nov. 28, and is to continue through the end of January, with two weeks off during the holiday break.
Futsal is a fast-paced game that encourages and promotes soccer foot skill development, according to the release. Community programs director Mari Schumaker described the game as indoor soccer that uses a weighted ball.
The cost to participate is $35, a portion of which will go to Harbor Springs boys' and girls' high school teams. That cost includes a T-shirt.
