SUPP Miri Youth: Sports belong to everyone

November 19, 2011, Saturday

The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Miri-Sibuti Youth saw red in a statement made by Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) Miri in the local press yesterday about SUPP imitating PAS in organising futsal games in Miri recently.

“We rebut the statement made by PAS Miri, which sounds as if they own the futsal game or is the franchisor,” said SUPP Miri-Sibuti Youth Liaison chief Cr Lawrence Kong San Hoe in a press conference on Thursday (Nov 17).

Kong said it was ridiculous for SUPP, a multi-racial party that practised freedom of worship, to want to copy what PAS was doing, especially when SUPP is strongly against Hudud Law that is proposed by PAS.

“They must have noticed we have a huge crowd of youths supporting and participating in our first Fonsen 1Malaysia Futsal Cup with about 48 teams, which even included their supporters, so they were jealous of our success,” Kong said, pointing at the fewer teams that participated in PAS Youth-organised games.

He said that the good response in SUPP-organised games indicated that Miri’s youths are switching their support back to Barisan Nasional (BN) and the SUPP as well as the 1Malaysia concept.

“This is a good sign, which will boost SUPP’s confidence in winning and retaining the Miri seat in the upcoming general elections,” he said adding that PAS Miri Youth is not up to date on the local scene whereby the SUPP had long organised many events for Miri’s youths and the public.
