The Bangkok PostDouble delight for Thai futsal teams23/11/2011JAKARTA Thailand won the last two gold medals of the 26th SEA Games yesterday with their victories in the men's and women's futsal (five-a-side football) finals.
The Thai men defeated Vietnam 8-3 while the women also beat Vietnam 4-2.
The gold sweep in futsal is a tonic for the Football Association of Thailand after its U23 side were embarrassingly eliminated in the first round.
In the men's final, hot favourites Thailand had few problems as they raced to a 3-0 lead in the first half.
The Thais took a 5-0 lead before the Vietnamese got their first goal.
In the women's final, Thailand took a 2-1 lead at half-time and went 3-1 ahead in the second half.
The Vietnamese then gave the Thais a scare when they cut the deficit to 3-2 before the kingdom eased their nerve with a late goal.
FAT secretary-general Ong-art Kosinkha said he was happy that Thailand won golds in both events following the early exit in football and he added that each team will receive one million baht from the FAT and a further 200,000 baht from the government for each player.
