RTE SportIreland Deaf Futsal team beaten by TurkeyWednesday, 23 November 2011Ireland's hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the World Deaf Futsal Championships suffered a severe blow as they lost 6-1 to Turkey.
After an early spell where the sides were squarely matched, Turkey bombed into a ninth-minute lead.
Irish goalkeeper Robert Archer was called into action on a few occasions to deny the Turkish before Eamon Byrne went close six minutes later with Ireland's best chance of the half.
But Ireland slipped further behind on 19 minutes and at half-time Turkey led 2-0.
Joseph Watson, Sean Young, Jason Maguire and Paul O'Callaghan were all in the thick of the action in the second half as Ireland sought a response before Young scored after 21 minutes.
O'Callaghan hit the post in the 27th minute but they conceded a killer third goal a minute later.
Turkey scored their fourth after 30 minutes before Watson hit the post and Christopher Corcoran missed from the penalty spot.
