The Borneo PostMa’al Hijrah futsal to strengthen unity — LeeDecember 4, 2011, SundayMIRI: Some total of 34 teams from government agencies, surau and mosque under the Miri parliamentary are taking part in the Futsal Ma’al Hijrah carnival at Miri Indoor Stadium, starting yesterday until today.
Assistant Minister of Sport Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the participation of youth totalling about 200 in the Futsal Ma’al Hijrah carnival had shown the strong unity and close rapport of the community in Miri.
“Although the futsal event was held in conjunction with the Muslim religious event, players of other races and religion also part took. This practise is one of the example that 1Malaysia concept has been inculcated among the society,” he told when officiating at the opening ceremony the event at Miri Indoor Stadium, yesterday.
Moreover, Lee added that apart from building unity, involvement of youth in the sport encourages healthy lifestyle and also to scout for potential talents among the local players.
“Futsal is one of the events competed in Sukma, therefore, new potential talents are needed to be trained to represent the state or the national team,” he hoped.
Lee also expressed that through frequent involvement in sports it would also promote sportsmanship spirit among the participants.
Meanwhile among the teams competing are Miri Resident Office, Custom Department, Petronas Gas, SPRM, Miri Prison, Niah District Office, Surau At-Taqwa, Masjid Ar-Rayyan, Masjid Annur as well as Masjid Al-Jabbar.
The event is jointly organised by JK Tetap Aktiviti Islam Miri, Jakim Sarawak Miri and Pejabat Agama Islam Miri division.
Also present during the opening ceremony was Miri Deputy Resident Abdul Aziz Yusuf.
