HZQ FC clinches Arena’s U-17 trophy

KUCHING: HZQ FC defeated War 15, 5-4 through penalty shoot-out to win the inaugural Under 17 Arena Sukan 4th Annual Junior Futsal Tournament at Arena Sukan Complex, Simpang Tiga here recently.

The teams were tied up 2-2 after fulltime.

As champion HZQ FC walked away with cash RM1,200.

Other winners in second (War 15), third (Jucel) and Fair Play award team (Seys), received cash RM800,RM600 and RM400 respectively. They were also rewarded with medals.

A total of 22 teams compete in Under-17 category which was included for the first time in this year’s junior tournament.

The competition saw 36 matches being played on a round robin system, and a knockout in the semi-final.

With the addition of a new category Under 17, Arena Sukan has brought its Annual Junior Futsal Tournament (U12s, U15s and U17s) to a new level – providing an ideal opportunity for youths from 10 to 17 years old to showcase their futsal skills.

“We hope to be able to identify promising futsal players through our tournaments,” said Mary Chan, Arena Sukan’s general manager.

She added that next year, their vision was to make the tournament a bigger event and hoped that government agencies, schools and corporate would support their vision.

“This is in-line with our corporate social responsibility for the youths,” Mary noted.
