Preliminary phase / 1st qual. roundDraw made for Futsal CupThe draw for the 2003/04 UEFA Futsal Cup took place in Nyon, Switzerland today, under the supervision of UEFA Futsal Committee chairman Petr Fousek.
Castellón challengeDefending champions Playas de Castellón F.S. of Spain were drawn to meet Cypriot side AGBU Ararat and Beer Sheva of Israel in Group 1, with the fourth team, CSÖ-Montage Budapest F.C. of Hungary, hosting the event.
Qualifying gameGroup 2 consists of home side MNK Split of Croatia, Dorozhnik Minsk of Belarus, Finland's Golden Futsal Team and the winner of qualifying match four, between English side Tranmere Victoria Futsal FC and AS Odorheiu Secuiescu of Romania.
Lithuanian hostsLithuanian side FK Inkaras will host Group 3, which is completed by Georgia's FC Iberia 2000, KMF VIP Sofia of Bulgaria – who gained automatic qualification by virtue of not being one of the first two sides, Tranmere Victoria or Odorheiu Secuiescu, to be drawn in the preliminary phase – and the second Spanish qualifiers, whose identity is not yet known.
Latvian tripTribut Baku from Azerbaijan, Slovakia's SK Program Dabnica nad Vahóm and the Italian qualifiers will all be travelling to Latvia in Group 4 to face FK Oma, while Group 5, hosted by KMF Skopje of F.Y.R. Macedonia, also includes Ukrainian side FC Interkraz Kyiv, Czech side Nejzbach Vysoké Mýto and Unió Esportiva Santa Coloma of Andorra.
Charleroi involved againGroup 6 features this season's runners-up, Action 21 Charleroi of Belgium, who must travel to Poland to take on P.A. Nova Gliwice along with Zarea Balti of Moldova and Albania's FC Olimpic Tirana.
Home advantageHosts KMN Svea Lesna Litija of Slovenia, Dinamo Moscow from Russia, Kazakhstan's MFC Zhigitter Astana and the qualifiers from the Netherlands make up Group 7, while Group 8 comprises the Portuguese qualifiers, who will enjoy home advantage, alongside a side from Bosnia-Herzegovina, San Marinese outfit KMF CD Shop Mozart and Greek team Athina '90.
Two-legged tieTranmere Victoria and Odorheiu Secuiescu will meet over two legs to decide who progresses through to the group stages of the competition. Once the competition proper is under way, the winners of each section will progress to the second round, from which two teams will qualify to reach the final, which will be played in early 2004.
