West City Crusaders' great effort in Futsal Super League finals series

by Chris Georgakopoulos

29 Jan 12

EXCITING times are ahead for the West City Crusaders after seven of their nine teams reached the Futsal Super League finals series.

The club’s under-14 boys and girls, under-16 boys and girls, youth men and open women and men will battle it out in the final weeks of the competition.

Club president Warren Ladd said it was a great achievement for the players and officials.

“There are plenty of exciting times ahead with all the hard work to get to the finals having paid off,” Ladd said.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t achieve our aim of being promoted to the Futsal Premier League, as we finished just under the top-placed Phoenix Futsal Club on the club championship.

“But our club has most of our teams in the finals, so hopefully we can prove a point.”

The Crusaders will play their first finals games at Menai Indoor Sports Centre tomorrow.

“Our 14 and 16 boys have to play elimination finals, so they are on the brink of getting knocked out, but the rest of our teams will have a second chance,” Ladd said.

“I think we are in with a good chance of winning five of these competitions.

“Our open men’s team will go straight through to the grand final with a win over Maccabi Futsal this weekend and the rest of our teams have enough talent to get the job done.”
