Futsal refs get cracking

Saturday, 04 February 2012

Kuala Lumpur: Training for Asia’s Elite Futsal Referees has started in earnest to gear them up for the ‘Year of Futsal’ in the continent which is set to witness three futsal championships of the highest level.

Asia will play host for the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 in Thailand, Kuwait will be the venue for the AFC Futsal Club Championship 2012 while UAE will be the host for the AFC Futsal Championship 2012.

Towards this end, 20 Elite Futsal Referees began their three day course on Saturday, part of the programme under the AFC Elite Education Seminar 2012 in Kuala Lumpur where the best of the best in Asian football get updated for duties in the year just started.

One of the instructors in the course, Perry Gautier from Belgium, praised the participants for having reached this far in their careers as Elite Futsal Referees.

“You have a big responsibility as an Elite Futsal Referee and you are the ambassador of the AFC in the futsal arena. You would not have reached this level had you not worked hard,” he said.

“Because of this responsibility, you have to excel at your job and if you do, when you retire, you will be an instructor where you will shoulder an ever bigger responsibility for the sake of the beautiful game.”

Gautier’s fellow instructor, Yasuhiro Matsuzaki from Japan, said he hoped the participants would learn as much as they could from the course because this year would be a busy year in futsal.
