Bath breeze to win

Sion Kitson’s men hit Hereford for six at Point4.

Team Bath were in dominant form a they hammered Hereford 6-0 at the Point4 on Wednesday night.

The game, a rearranged fixture after a postponement earlier in the season was a stark contrast to the tight 1-0 affair which Bath won back in October thanks to an own goal.

From the outset, the visitors took control of the game and but for some wasteful finishing and a number of heroic saves from Luke Brimfield in the Hereford goal, Bath could’ve been out of sight at half time.

They went into the break leading 2-0 after goals from Dave Jennings and the tricky Rob Yilmaz but after a number of golden chances to increase that lead, Sion Kitson’s side still had work to do to secure their victory.

Their performance in the second half however was fantastic and they smashed a further four goals past the helpless Brimfield, whose performance throughout the 40 minutes deserved more than a six goal deficit.

Captain Ian Parkes added a third just one minute into the second period, with player/manager Kitson slotting home number four just two minutes later. Yilmaz added a fifth eight minutes after half time and the game was dead and buried.

At 5-0, Bath simply controlled the game, playing comfortably at their own pace and moving the ball well trying to work a further opening whilst trying to frustrate their opponents. The only negative factor for Kitson will be the number of silly fouls conceded as Bath ran up a full five after half time despite their dominance and Hereford never really threatening Jose Lima’s goal.

Goal number six came in the dying embers of the game and was a case of saving the best until last. A super team move saw Kitson’s side probing right and left as they looked for an opening, before eventually finding a chance which Yilmaz slotted away for his third at the second attempt from inside the area.

Other than the sloppy fouls, Bath were faultless and the victory opened the gap between them and third placed Loughborough to six points, albeit having played one more than their play-off rivals. The race for the Grand Finals looks like going down to the wire in the Midlands and with Oxford Lions clear in top spot, Bath and Loughborough will face off twice in mid-March in what promises to be a mouth watering double header.
