The AFC.comMF2 day out at AFC HouseThursday, 16 February 2012Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Midnight Football Second Edition (MF2) participants had a day-out at AFC House on Thursday where apart from visiting the home of Asian football, they had a chance to play exhibition futsal against the Directors and Unit Heads of AFC.
Midnight Football is the AFC’s community development programme that aims to help guide youngsters going in the wrong direction with football as the main agent of change.
Its first edition which started in 2010 had proven to be a huge success and the second edition, started last year, will conclude in the middle of the year.
MF has received numerous praised for its groundbreaking concept of using football as a tool to bring about positive change to the lives of youths, the first such an endeavour in Asia.
Edwin Roch, head coach of MF2, which resumed after a two-month break in January, said the time and attention given by AFC management and staff was ample enough to show how serious AFC was in social causes.
“The young participants of MF2 prepared and trained hard for these friendly matches but on top of it all the busy Directors and Unit Heads of AFC managed to play with my kids, which was really a praiseworthy gesture from AFC.”
Dr. Annathurai Ranganathan, the Head of the AFC Corporate Social Responsibility Department, agreed that the idea of bringing together AFC staff and the MF2 participants through futsal was successful with all the kids having enjoyed the day-out as there were many positives signs that influenced the participants in many ways.
“The participants are really happy to be here and play alongside the AFC staff. Through these kinds of inclusive programme we can further strengthen AFC’s commitment to social development,” he said.
