AND LAOS MADE IT TEN FOR AFF FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2012

BANGKOK (20 Feb 2012) – The inclusion of Laos will make this year’s AFF Futsal Championship 2012 the biggest ever with ten teams battling it out to be the best in ASEAN. The tournament has been slated for 17-25 April 2012 in Bangkok.

The last time Laos took part in the championship was 2008 while regional powers house Thailand will make a comeback to the meet after choosing to stay out at the last edition in 2010. The Thais were the winners in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Indonesia are the defending champions after beating Malaysia in the final that was played at the Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City in 2010. The championship was not held in 2011.

With ten teams from ASEAN taking part with the exception of Singapore, this year’s meet showed that the game of Futsal is growing in the region. The first tournament in Malaysia in 2001 was taken part by just five teams.
