This is KentSchool's futsal team proves it's Kent's bestFriday, February 24, 2012A TONBRIDGE school has won a county-wide sports tournament.
Heats and trials for the Kent School Games have been taking place across the county over the past few months and now local winners are preparing to represent their schools and towns in the finals.
The first of the 87 finals was held at the University of Kent earlier this month, in which Hayesbrook School in Brook Street came first in the under-12s futsal tournament.
The game is similar to football, but played on a smaller pitch and usually indoors.
The rest of the finals will be held over 26 event days at 15 venues between now and June.
The Kent School Games has become the largest school sports competition in Europe since its launch in 2008.
More than 30,000 pupils take part, competing in 36 sports.
Ken County Council's member responsible for community issues, Mike Hill, said: "The Kent School Games has grown dramatically over the last four years with thousands of young people getting the chance to get involved.
"Having the opportunity to play sport benefits everyone's health and wellbeing.
"Our plan is to get every child aged 4 to 16 taking part in competitive school sport under the banner of the Kent School Games."
