In Futsal's fast lane

DANIEL Cappellaro has his finger in a lot of pies.

The 26-year-old Notre Dame University student is a keen soccer player, playing semi-pro outdoor games with the Western Knights, and representing WA in the West Coast Futsal League for Fremantle club Muita Calma, which is Spanish for 'lots of calm'.

However, Cappellaro's life is anything but calm, with a number of soccer commitments both at home and internationally keeping him busy.

He also coaches, joining Luke Jurcevic in coaching as part of the Equal Footingball Program, providing an introduction to football for special needs players, as well as coaching in various communities as part of the Perth Glory Community program, headed by Callum Salmon and alongside past players Michael Garcia and Bobby Despotovski.

And if that did not keep him busy enough, he recently returned from Argentina where he played for Deportivo Caseros in a Buenos Aires Futsal tournament.

“Argentina was amazing, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there,” Cappellaro said.

“In Argentina, the game is very different; it is highly technical and physical.

“Matches are played more like a game of chess, with coaches using players as their pieces and trying to outplay each other tactically.”

Cappellaro's talents with the ball were so impressive; he was selected as one of the players in the soon-to-be-released video game FIFA Street 4.

“I was shocked to be in the video game but mostly excited,” he said.

“I love the FIFA Street and FIFA video game series so to be a player in one will be a little weird, but really cool.”

In a case of no rest for the wicked, Cappellaro will head off to Melbourne in the middle of March to promote the video game and said he had one piece of advice for young people hoping to take their game to the next level.

“I know this sounds very clichéd, but always make sure you practice,” he said.

“It is the only way to get better.”
