Port Stephens ExaminerNational selection for Raymond Terrace futsal playerby
Sarah Price29 Feb, 2012A RAYMOND Terrace youth's dream to represent Australia in soccer has come true after he was picked as goal keeper in a national futsal squad.
Jack Caban has been playing soccer since he was five years old and his years of hard work have paid off with the 13-year-old travelling to Barcelona, Spain as part of an Australian team for two weeks.
Caban will wear the green and gold as goal keeper for the Under 14 Australian Futsal team.
The Irrawang High student was selected for the squad after a stand out performance competing in the National Futsal Championships in January where he represented Northern NSW.
Caban said his selection came as a surprise with the Broadmeadow Magic player sceptical about his chances after his team missed out on the top spot and the other players were up to a year older than him.
"It felt really great," Caban said when talking about his nomination.
The striker come goal keeper said he drew inspiration from some of his favourite Australian players including Harry Kewell and Mark Schwarzer.
Now Caban and his family have the task of fundraising the $6800 required to pay for the international trip and the school is taking donations and organising fundraising.
Anyone interested in supporting the cause can contact Irrawang High on 49874687.
