Futsal courts shut down months after opening

Just three months after it opened its doors, Twin Cities Futsal has apparently closed down, surprising kids and adults who had been coming to the former commercial building in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood to play Futsal, a form of indoor soccer that originated in Uruguay.

Owner Marshall Morehead sent an email to coaches over the weekend saying he had to close the facility immediately. “I won’t go into detail as to why in this medium, it was just a decision that made the most sense for me and my family,” he wrote. Morehead, a standout high school player at Stillwater who went on to play for the Minnesota Thunder, was not available for comment.

Thought to be one of the largest such facilities in the Upper Midwest, Twin Cities Futsal opened with high hopes in early December. Morehead said at the time that he hoped the facility would help kids aged 8 to 16 develop their soccer skills during the winter months, when most of the state is buried under snow and ice. It had been busy on recent nights, with youth from at least two local clubs playing on the facility’s two Futsal courts.
