Twin Cities Futsal Closes its Doors After 3 Months

2012 March 13

Sadly, Twin Cities Futsal has closed its doors for good. The facility, started by former player Marshall Morehead in early December was open for just a few short months before the decision was made to pull the plug after lagging interest.

Morehead had hoped to draw U of M students with its location close to the university as well as youth soccer clubs with adult play filling up the remaining times. Despite the commitment from Minneapolis United, interest in general was low even though those who used the facility, both youth and adult, reportedly enjoyed the futsal experience.

Not helping the cause, the U of M put up a domed facility that opened in January. The UMN Dome, just a few blocks from TC Futsal, was created for U of M students and catered to recreational sports like soccer, lacrosse, sports camps, walking, Frisbee, softball, football, as well as many other activities. The space is open to intramural sports, U of M students, and the greater community according to one source.
Morehead distributed a letter via email in early March stating, “After many discussions with my family and other colleagues I have decided to close the doors at Twin Cities Futsal – effective immediately.” Morehead went on to state that he would not go into all the reasons why but it was a decision that was made “fairly quickly” and was not easy. He apologized to those who were using the facility for the short notice.
