Futsal Hat-trick at Mayaro

Wednesday, March 14 2012

SW TOURING, the sport event management organisation, will be staging the “SW Futsal Invitational — The Hattrick” on March 31 at the Mayaro Indoor Sport Arena.

The day-long affair will run from 9 am to 7 pm — 10 hours of football extravagance and the fans can marvel as the top footballers in the South East peninsula display their skill in the “smaller version of the game”.

Geoffrey Edwards, the tournament event manager, said, “This sporting event, being the first of its kind at the Mayaro Indoor Sport Arena, is the continuation of our Futsal information and sensitising caravan through the encouragement of teams from the South Eastern region of the island to participate in the tournament.”

Edwards continued, “We also see this as an opportunity to bridge the social and sporting gap in our society whilst contributing to community building.”

He stated, “Our intention, as with past editions is to attract corporate, energy based organisations, educational institutions, club and community teams to participate in this exciting sporting venture.”

The competition, which is open for males of all ages, will feature a maximum of 12 teams vying for over $10,000 in cash and $5,000 in prizes. Also at stake will be the SW Futsal Invitational Challenge Trophy and medals, as well as the Runners-Up and Third Place trophies, and the individual accolades — Most Valuable Player, Golden Boot (Most Goals) and Golden Gloves (Best Goalkeeper).

Other tournament attractions include the SW All Star Exhibition Match, Freestyle Ball Juggling by Kerron Forde, Half-line Shootout and Obstacle Competitions for spectators.

The dynamic fusion of sports and entertainment, a constant theme at SW Touring events, will be evident as the venue will be transformed into “Futsal Nation” with live entertainment, a food area, and a well stocked non-alcoholic bar.

With regards to the registration process, a maximum of 10 players must comprise a team, and the entry fee is $850.

The deadline for registering teams is March 23 and, for additional information, call 765-4439 or send an email to futsalnation@gmail.com.
