The Borneo PostFatimah tells futsal players to practise consistentlyMarch 18, 2012, SundayDALAT: Consistent futsal matches at the village or district level will be able to groom players for bigger matches at state or national level.
“Coupled with adequate facilities and the right knowledge about the sport, consistent matches will provide the training opportunities to young talents who can someday shine at a higher level.
“To ensure that youths channel their energy into healthy activities such as futsal, the government is always prepared to build more futsal courts at the village level so that the local youths will have access to the facilities,” said Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.
She was speaking at the closing ceremony for futsal referee training course here yesterday.
“Traditionally, football was a popular sport, but due to high maintenance costs of football field and the number of players needed, futsal is getting more popular nowadays as it is in line with changing times.
“Futsal requires a smaller space for its court and less players to form a team, meaning more people can take part in the sport.
“Because of these reasons, we try to make sure every village or area gets its own futsal court to encourage more participation. Our aim is to make sports a culture and a healthy lifestyle for the people.”
A total of 32 participants took part in the four-day course.
Fatimah commended the efforts of the local Dalat District Futsal Association for taking the initiative to be the platform for futsal development in the area.
“This referee training course, which is the second of its kind in the state after the one held in Bintulu, ensure that the participants know and understand the rules of futsal, which they can share with the people at their respective villages or areas. This will further improve people’s knowledge and interest in the sport.”
Currently, there are nine villages in Dalat constituency that have their own futsal court.
Ten more villages are in the pipeline of getting their own courts.
At the same ceremony, Fatimah announced a special project grant of RM5,000 to the association.
Other special project grant recipients were JKKK Sungai Kut Muara for their Christian religious activities (RM2,000), Methodist Preaching Centre (RM2,000) and Perkim Dalat-Oya Branch (RM5,000). The minister also presented MRP grant to a resident from Kpg Sungai Kut Muara for repair of his attap roof (RM6,000).
