Indoor football tourney for universities in Doha

The Permanent Committee for Drug and Alcohol Affairs (PCDAA) will hold a Futsal (Indoor Football) championship in association with Carnegie Mellon University-Qatar (CMU-Q) during March18-28.
It will be supervised by the Futsal committee in Qatar Football Association and Qatar Police Sports Federation.

The PCDAA secretary and head of International Relations Section at the Drug Enforcement Administration Major Ibrahim Mohammed al-Sameeh and assistant CEO for human resources at CMU-Q Mohammed Fadhil Anan attended the press briefing organised by the committee at CMU-Qatar to announce about the championship.

Major al-Sameeh said that the championship is held under the patronage of HE the Minister of State for Interior Affair on the theme ‘let us start a new life’ as part of national strategy approved by the cabinet to combat drugs.

It also comes under the 7th phase of National Project on Drug Awareness and is held in association with CMU-Q, Aspire, Qatar Football Association and Qatar Police Sports Federation. Twelve teams representing various universities in the country will take part in the tournament, he said.

Al-Sameeh pointed out that the tournament is held to spread awareness on the risks of drugs among students and encourage them to be active and responsible individuals.

Through a draw, the teams were grouped into two.

Group A: North Atlantic College, Qatar University A, Weill Cornell University, Academic Bridge Program, Carnegie Mellon University-Qatar, and Faculty of Islamic Studies.

Group B: Community College, Qatar University B, Georgetown University in Qatar, Texas A&M University, Northwestern University, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar.
