Thai Son Nam, GH Bank qualify for finals

Ho Chi Minh: Vietnam’s Thai Son Nam and GH Bank RBAC of Thailand qualified for the finals of the Asian Futsal Club Championship 2012 following their respective victories over Pelindo and Guangzhou Baiyunshan in the semi-finals of the Zone 2 qualifiers on Friday.

Thai Son Nam edged Indonesia’s Pelindo 2-1 in extra time to seal a place in the finals to be held in Kuwait. Pham Thanh Tuan scored two minutes into extra time after both the sides were locked at 1-1 at the end of regulation time. Pelindo’s Taufiq scored his third goal of the campaign in the 18th minute to cancel out Tran Van Vu’s opener in the 13th minute forcing the match into extra time.

The Ho Chi Minh based club had recorded wins against China’s Guangzhou Baiyunshan (3-1) and Meccabi of Australia (1-0) to set up the clash against Pelindo in the semi-final.

Thai outfit GH Bank RBAC set up a Zone 2 final showdown with Thai Son Nam after thrashing China’s Guangzhou Baiyunshan 8-1 in the second semi-final to take their tally to an impressive 27 goals in three matches.

Suphawut Thueanklang scored a double to take his individual total to nine goals while Keattiyot Chalaemkhet and Sermphan Khumthinkaew also scored a brace each. Lertchai Issarasuwipakorn and Panomkorn Saisorn also found the net for GH Bank.

The final match of the Zone 2 qualifier will be held on Saturday at Phu To Stadium of Ho Chi Minh City. Thai Son Nam and GH Bank RBAC and the two qualifiers from the West/South-Central Zone will join the league winners of host nation Kuwait as well as the national champions of Japan, Iran and Lebanon - whose club sides occupied the top three positions at the 2011 AFC Futsal Club Championship.
