GH Bank win Zone 2 qualifier

Saturday, 24 March 2012

Ho Chi Minh: Kritsada Wongkaeo scored the only goal of the match as Thai outfit GH Bank RBAC edged Vietnam’s Thai Son Nam 1-0 to win the Zone 1 qualifier of the AFC Futsal Club Championship on Saturday.

In the match played at Phu Tho Stadium of Ho Chi Minh, the local side was trailed by a goal down as early as in the 3rd minute after Kritsada put the Thais in the lead. In the keenly contested battle, GH Bank were one-man down in the 19th minute when referee Mohammed Al Haddad sent competition’s highest scorer (9 goals) Suphawut Thueanklang off.

The decision highly affected the game plan of GH Bank as the free scoring side was contained with their only goal scored early in the match. Supawut’s exit made it worse as GH Bank were asked to play more than half of the match with one-man less.

Both the Saturday’s finalists Thai Son Nam and GH Bank RBAC and the two qualifiers from the Zone 1 will join the league winners of the host nation Kuwait as well as the national champions of Japan, Iran and Lebanon - whose club sides occupied the top three positions at the 2011 AFC Futsal Club Championship.
