Euro place within reach

Thursday, March 22, 2012

FUTSAL Team Bath beat old rivals Loughborough University home and away to reach the FA National League play-offs for the first time in their five-year history.

They will now head to London on May 12-13 to compete against the five other best teams in the country for the overall title and a coveted European place.

Team Bath went into the double header six points clear of Loughborough in the Midlands Division, knowing that four points would put them out of reach in the second play-off place.

But they did better than that, winning 3-1 at home before storming to a 9-6 success in the reverse fixture seven days later.

A record attendance at the University of Bath's Founders Hall saw England international Parkes, Kitson and Dorin fire Team Bath to victory in the first match.

Parkes (2), Kitson and skipper Jennings then gave the visitors a dream start in the second match, all scoring inside the opening ten minutes.

The latter struck again before half-time and Clarke bagged a brace as Team Bath opened up a 7-1 lead. Loughborough hit back after the break but Parkes took his personal tally to four to seal victory.

Team Bath have one final league game, at home to Birmingham Tigers on Sunday (3pm), before the play-offs.

They will be hoping to go one better than they did in last Thursday's BUCS finals, where they won their group but were edged out 4-3 by Teesside University in the trophy showdown.
