Community Trust reveals Futsal scholarship project

Thursday, March 22, 2012

I AM pleased to announce that Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust are offering young men aged 16-19 the chance to pursue a Futsal and education scholarship.

Staying on at school or going to college is not for everyone so with us offering this opportunity it will give them the chance to study a BTEC Level Three Extended Diploma at Yeovil Town and play Futsal for the club all for free.

The course will be based at Huish Park with the Futsal element taking place offsite. During the scholarship they will also be able to earn qualifications that will help them gain employment in the sport and leisure industry, as well as training and competing in a professional Futsal environment for Yeovil Town against other clubs in the Football League.

Futsal is the only form of indoor football approved by FIFA, UEFA and the FA. With more than two million players regularly participating in fast-paced five-a-side action that rewards good technique and game intelligence, Futsal is globally recognised as one of the fastest growing indoor sports in the world.

Many greats from the 11-a-side game such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Cesc Fabregas, Zinedine Zidane and Pele attribute the development of their skills to Futsal. Extensively televised international competitions such as the Futsal World Cup and UEFA Futsal Cup allow players to showcase their talents on a global scale and ensure that Futsal is here to stay as part of the fabric of football.

As a key element of the FA's strategy to develop the game and produce players capable of representing England, and after a very successful introduction in 2010, Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust in conjunction with Swindon Academy are now offering this exciting and innovative programme.

Learners will have the opportunity to train in Futsal for up to eight hours a week with trust coaches, under the direction of the Football League Trust. Training will be supplemented with fortnightly regular fixtures against other teams, representing professional clubs in the Football League Trust National Futsal League.

The two-year full-time course will consist of eight hours of education and eight hours of Futsal per week. The scholarship is available to those have just achieved their GCSEs or those who are not in education, employment or training. Entry requirements are four GCSEs or equivalent at C grade or above but this is flexible. If you would like any more information about this course please contact Roy O'Brien on 01935 706671 or email ROBrien@ytfc.net .
