Patwant Singh23 March 2012SINGAPORE: Singapore is fielding a futsal team in the inaugural Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dream Asia Cerebral Palsy Tournament.
The event is taking place in Abu Dhabi early next month, from April 1 to 7.
Before the team's departure on March 30, a gathering session was held for the 11 boys at the Singapore Sports Council on Friday.
They will be competing with other cerebral palsy players from Australia, the UAE, Korea, Iran and Jordan.
President of the Football Association of Singapore Zainudin Nordin, FAS officials and sponsors hope the event will offer a good platform for the disabled players to meet across borders.
Zainudeen Hassan, head coach of the Singapore team, said: "It's a real big challenge for the boys. When we first started three years ago, this was not in our plans at all and now AFC has come with this fantastic competition and the boys are really excited.
"For the first time, they are wearing the national colours. All of them feel proud of it and they are all looking forward to the competition. They have been working very hard in training and in all the activities that we have organised."
