The Borneo PostSebuyau set to host annual futsal tourneyApril 4, 2012KUCHING: Futsal is fast gaining popularity in Sebuyau and to further develop the game, its assemblyman Julaihi Narawi has proposed for an annual tourney.
“I hope the inaugural Sebuyau annual futsal competition can kick-off before the end of this year. Such competition is a good arena to promote the game among the youths, while at the same time a platform to discover potential players for the state. I proposed the prize structure of RM1,000 for the champion, RM700 for the runners-up and RM500 for the third spot winner,” said Julaihi who is also the assistant minister of rural development.
“It can be named ‘Sebuyau Futsal Challenge Trophy’ and the competition will also encourage closer rapport and friendship. At the same time, it can also help to discover good and potential players for the state. The competition would help to prevent youths from indulging in unhealthy activities,” added Julaihi when speaking at the closing ceremony of the Sebuyau Futsal Competition 2012, held at Sebuyau Futsal court.
The competition drew 32 teams in the men category while the women event saw nine teams taking part. Julaihi was glad to note that Sebuyau and Sebangan has their own purpose-built futsal court each, while the one in nearby Sebulu is about 70 per cent completed.
At the event, he also announced a RM5,000 for Sebuyau Community Sports Club.
