Kane YoungApril 08, 2012TASMANIA'S smallest soccer star is headed for big things, starting tomorrow when he kicks off his international career.
Leroy Hart, 14, leaves tomorrow to tour the UK with Australia's Vikings Futsal International under-15 school team.
The Year 9 New Town High School student is one of three Tasmanian players selected in the indoorsoccer team.
Players were chosen on their performance at the National Schools titles in Brisbane last September.
"He is actually the first indigenous person from Tasmania ever to do something like this, so mum's pretty proud," Leroy's mother Rayna Dakin said.
"He just loves soccer and started playing futsal to keep fit over summer.
"We soon found out that his size and agility are perfectly suited to it."
During the three-week tour of England and Wales, the Vikings will play a number of matches.
They also will have the chance to learn from coaches from English Premier League teams Manchester City and Arsenal.
Leroy, who hopes to become a professional soccer player, is excited about his first overseas trip.
"I'm looking forward to seeing all the different places and going to all the games," he said.
"It's gonna be wicked."
