The Evening Telegraph - Peterborough TodayFutsal sessions prove a winnerTuesday 10 April 2012A youth football programme based on the UK’s fastest growing sport has been declared a success following its launch earlier this year.
Sports development group Sports Xtra launched the six-week children’s Futsal course in February.
The sessions, the first of their kind for the city, were held at The Voyager Academy, in Mountsteven Avenue, Walton, each Saturday morning for children aged three to seven.
Futsal is a five-a-side game, played with hockey-size goals and a smaller ball with a reduced bounce.
Some 12 youngsters took part in the course.
Sports Xtra director Sara Strid-Coughlan said she had received positive feedback from parents and children from the sessions and was looking forward to starting another six-week course later this month.
She said: “I am so excited about offering Futsal to the children in Peterborough.
“Although many are still unaware of what Futsal is all about, awareness is growing incredibly fast.
“Our Futsal courses are about having fun, learning footballing skills and develop confidence, in a friendly and welcoming environment.
“It is fair to say that all the children that attended this course have had tremendous fun, and most are coming back for more after Easter.
“My objective for later in the year is to establish a young team, and to give them the opportunity to play games in fantastic venues such as the International Futsal Arena in Birmingham.”
Sessions on the next course will start again on April 21 and places are still available.
The cost is £30 for six sessions.
