20 teams in fray for first Bahrain futsal league

BAHRAIN's first-ever Five-A-Side Futsal League is due to begin on April 28 with 20 teams representing clubs, companies, banks and ministries taking part.

During a special ceremony marking the official draw of the tournament held at the Sofitel Hotel in Zallaq, the teams were drawn into four groups of five.

Group 'A' features teams from the Information Authority Affairs, Majesty Cars, Manama Club, Benefit and Diyar Al Muharraq, while Khaleeji Commercial Bank, East Riffa Club, Al Ahli Club, Bahrain Specialist Hospital and Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait will play in Group 'B'.

In Group 'C', Busaiteen Club, Al Shabab Club, Interior Ministry, Samsung and Al Malkiya Club will battle it out, while Group 'D' consists of Bahrain Defence Force team, Al Hala Club, Um Al Hassam Club, General Organisation for Social Insurance and Nomas Projects.

Bahrain Football Association vice-president for technical affairs and head of the Beach Football and Futsal Committee Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, who conducted the draw.

The function was also attended by Yousef Al Thawadi, representative of tournament sponsors Diyar Al Muharraq, besides Abdulaziz Bin Hindi, general manager of Samsung mobile dealers, Bin Hindi.

Diyar Al Muharraq presented its sponsorship to the BFA for the second successive time, having supported the 2011 Futsal Championship titled 'In Love of Bahrain', and was organised as part of a national festival.

Shaikh Ali thanked Diyar Al Muharraq for this generous gesture, welcoming the teams taking part and wished everyone success.

Shaikh Ali also expressed gratitude to the Bahrain Sports Channel, headed by Abdulaziz Al Ashraf, for his continued co-operation with the association in organising its programmes.

This two-month long championship, which is due to conclude on the first week of July, will be taking place at Khalifa Sports City's Gym in Isa Town.

Meanwhile, the organising committee is holding a series of meetings to finalise the rules and regulations of the coming event.

A number of valuable prizes will be drawn during the second leg of the season for the supporters attending the matches, while special soccer fans competitions will be organised at half-times of the games to add more excitement to the season.
