AFF FUTSAL 2012: Malaysia thump Cambodia; Misagh leads Philippines past Myanmar

April 19, 2012

BANGKOK (19 April 2012) – Malaysia made a thumping start to their campaign in the AFF Futsal Championship 2012 when they thrashed Cambodia 8-0 as five-goal Misagh Bahadoran led the Philippines past Myanmar 5-4 in the second match of Group A at the Acachai Acadium.

The Malaysians, who lost the final to Indonesia two years ago, came out with all guns blazing as they scorched to a four goal lead at the half with goals from Asmie Zahari in the fourth minute, Fawzul Mohamad (8th and 18th minute) and Qaiser Khadir (10th minute).

Cambodia’s decision to bring in reserve keeper Kongvong Sovichea for the ineffective Chum Sophorn stemmed the flood at the start of the second half. But as the game wore on, the Malaysians piled on the pressure to add further goals as Qaiser completed his hat-trick (28th and 32nd minute) while Fariq Mohamad (35th minute) and Zubaidee Alwi (36th) added the remainder for the final score line.

In the meantime, the Philippines got the start they wanted when they edged Myanmar 5-4 with Misagh Bahadoran scoring all five goals in the process. The nippy forward was on target in the second, third, 22nd, 23rd and 30th minute before Myanmar replied with their first goal of the game through Pyae Phyo Maung in the 26th minute.

The last four minute of the tie gave some harrowing moments for the Philippines where they had to withstood the Myanmar onslaught as the other Pyae Phyo Maung scored the second goal on 29 minute, Tin Win Ko Ko (34th) and Than Wunna Aung (36th) attempted to close the gap. But the Philipines defence stood their ground to pick up their first three points of the competition.

AFF FUTSAL 2012: Indonesia show serious contention; Laos hang on for win

April 19, 2012

BANGKOK (19 April 2012) – Indonesia showed their seriousness to challenge kingpins Thailand for the crown this year when they overwhelmed Timor Leste 16-1 in the first game in Group B of the AFF Futsal Championship 2012 as Laos scored an 8-6 victory over Brunei in the other tie.

The defending champions stamped their authority early in the game as they showed their dominance throughout for Syahidansyah Lubis (5th, 6th, 23rd and 31st minute), Andri Kustiawan (10th, 11th, 31st and 32nd minute) and Septian Cahya (12th, 19th, 30th and 40th minute) to score four goals each.

The remainder of Indonesia’s goals were scored by Nur Ali (18th minute), Karami Balfas (19th), Ismail (26th) and Fachri Reza (38th). Timor’s only goal in the game came in 18th minute off Manuel Pereira.

In the meantime, Laos hung on to secure their first three points in Group B when they edged Brunei 8-6 in the other tie.

The Laotian began the game on the right note when Kita Souksabai opened the scoring in the very first minute of play. They then raced to a 3-0 lead inside of the first ten minutes of the game with goals off Nidnilanh Chanchaleune (8th minute) and Khounsombath Phommaxay (9th).

But Brunei fought back with their first goal of the game through Maziri Maidin in the 12th minute to put the pressure on Laos. The score at the end of the first half was 3-1 to the advantage of Laos.

However, all that disappeared just two minutes into the restart when Anaqi Sufi Baki slammed two goals in a two-minute blitz (21st and 22nd minute) to put the score at 3-3.

The game grew more intense soon after when Junaidi Jumat gave Brunei the lead for the first time in the match on 28 minute where barely a minute later, Laos converted a penalty off Tona Bounmalay to put both teams back on level terms.

Laos then upped the tempo to score four more goals through Kita Souksabai (31st and 37th minute) and Tona Bounmalay (33 and 35th minute) as Brunei’s late surge off Norazizam Roslan (34th minute) and Maziri Maidin (39th minute) came a tad too late.
