Devinder SinghMALAYSIA qualified for the semi-finals of the AFF Futsal Championships with a 5-0 win over Myanmar which maintained their unbeaten record after three matches in Group A in Bangkok yesterday.
Asmie Amir Zahari and Ahmad Fawzul Hadzir Mohamad scored two goals each before Fariq Mohammad netted a last-minute penalty for the emphatic win which sealed 2010 AFF runners-up Malaysia's semi-final berth.
The victory followed Malaysia's 4-1 win over the Philippines on Saturday when four second-half goals from Muizzudin Haris, Zubaidee Alwee, Qaiser Heshaam Abdul Kadir and Ahmad Fawzul Hadzir put the national team on course for the last four.
Malaysia meet Vietnam today in a top-of-the-table clash which takes on added importance because the winner will likely play defending champions Indonesia in the last four and avoid raging favourites Thailand, who skipped the last championship, at least until the final.
To underline their superiority, Thailand have racked up 67 goals in three matches having blasted past Brunei (22-0), Laos (26-2) and Timor Leste (19-1).
