This Day LiveFIFA Futsal World Cup: Oyekale Invites 26 to Lagos Camp27 Apr 2012Head Coach of the Five-A-Side National Football Team, Oladunni Oyekale has invited 26 players for screening ahead of the FIFA Futsal World Cup qualifying match against Gabon in Lagos on Sunday, May 6.
The players are drawn from the four teams that made it to the semi finals of last year’s Ultimate Five-A-side National Football Championship.
The four teams are: Sholly Babes FC of Lagos, which emerged champions of the competition; MacJeff FC of Port Harcourt that finished runners-up; Inter FC of Enugu that won the bronze medal and; Pensioners FC of Enugu that placed fourth.
Players called, who are expected to resume training at the Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on Saturday are: Onyekaozulu Okolo, Onwukanjo Chijioke, Onuoha Joseph, Okafor Ebuka, Chisom Akunebu, Chukwudi Nwokeye, Kingsley Sokre, Ginodon Julex, Okoh Tochukwu, Chukwudi Orlando, Pascal Chukwudi, Victor Ajuluchukwu, Chidindu Madu, Israel Banigo, Junior Ukwenga, Emmanuel Madu, Prince Napoleon, Oluwaseun Taro, Taye Oche, Olaniyi Jejelola, Feinard Ahmed
Abokede, N. Obomate, Michael Joel Okoro, Kabiru Nosiru Olumide, Ishola Kehinde and Jones Adefolahan Adepoju.
Oyekale said on Thursday that the players will train three times daily in order to catch up on lost time and due to the peculiar nature of five-a-side football, which is highly technical and also feeds on endurance level.
The winner of the fixture between Nigeria and Gabon will proceed to the final stage of the qualifiers, to play the winner of the fixture between Tunisia and Egypt, no doubt the best two futsal playing nations in Africa.
This year’s FIFA Futsal World Cup will hold in Thailand between November 2-18.
