Yarmouk raring to go in futsal debut

Monday, 30 April 2012

Kuwait: Yarmouk Sports Club, hosts Kuwait’s representatives in the 2012 AFC Futsal Club Championship, are all geared up to take the home advantage when they take on Qatar’s Al Rayyan in the opening day of the competition on July 1.

Yarmouk are pitted in Group A against Sanaye Giti Pasand of Iran, Vietnam’s Thai Son Nam and Al Rayyan of Qatar.

Yarmouk’s assistant coach Hamad Othman is confident to make the local fans happy as he believes that the draw is ‘fair’ and there are chances for the hosts to progress to the semi-final.

“First of all it’s a big opportunity for us to be part of this competition,” he said.

“I am confident to make our fans happy during the tournament but there are challenges as Giti Pasand are formidable opponents in our group and so are the defending champions Nagoya Oceans in Group B but I must admit that all the participating clubs have chances,” he added.

Othman also sees next two months as a chance to address any frailties the club may have and become stronger for the tournament proper.

“We just finished our domestic season but there are scheduled plans starting from tomorrow. There will be regular training sessions in May and we will organise matches with foreign clubs to provide chances for our players to experience international match situations,” he revealed.

“I am sure being the hosts and playing in such a prestigious competition, the motivation is already there so the target is to reach the semis and then we will take the matches as they come,” he added.

After playing Al Rayyan on July 1, Yarmouk take on Thai Son Nam the following day followed by a July 3 date against Iran champions Giti Pasand.
