U.S. Futsal National Team to Take on Soccer City Stars

As part of their preparations for the 2012 CONCACAF Futsal Championships, the U.S. Futsal National Team will take on a team from South Coast Soccer City in a pair of exhibition matches on May 8 and 10. Both games will take place on international field number 7 at the Soccer City complex. The matches will feature a squad designed to showcase the talent at the Southern California facility.

The two-game exhibition will build on a successful partnership started last year with U.S. Futsal's identification and training camps being held at Soccer City. U.S. head coach Keith Tozer will use the games to help solidify his squad selection ahead of the 2012 CONCACAF Futsal Championships to be held in Guatemala City, July 2-8.

The U.S. Futsal National Team will compete in Group A at the CONCACAF Futsal Championships beginning on July 2 at the Domo Polideportivo. The USA will open group play against Panama and then face either Canada or El Salvador before taking on host Guatemala. Canada and El Salvador will meet in two pre-tournament matches to determine the final member of Group A.

Group B includes Cuba, Mexico, Costa Rica and St. Kitts & Nevis. The semifinals will take place on July 6 with winners of each group (A and B) facing the runners-up of the opposite group. The championship match will be July 8, with all four semifinal teams advancing to the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Soccer City is a 73,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Torrance, California, that is truly dedicated to Futsal. Futsal is the only "Official form of Indoor Soccer" as approved by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). It is played on all the continents of the world by more than 100 countries with 12 million registered players and growing. Futsal is normally played on sport court or a gymnasium floor.

Both games will start at 7:00 p.m. and will be free to the public. Fans are welcome to Soccer City to enjoy Futsal being played at an elite, international level. There will be food and drink vendors, a DJ, prizes, giveaways and much more.
