Philip WongMay 15, 2012, TuesdaySIBU: A solitary goal from Salehah Mohd Sulaiman in the dying minutes of the game was enough for Dsyco to edge Sixteen 5 FC, 1-0, for the team to lift the women’s title of the inaugural P211 Lanang Sibu Open Futsal championship.
Held at Bukit Lima Stadium, the match was heading for a penalty shoot-out before Salehah collected a cross and rifled the ball into the left corner of the opponent’s net.
With the victory, Dsyco collected RM500 and a trophy.
In the men’s section, TZ won the title when they beat Nazario 2-1 in the penalty shoot-out.
The match ended 1-1 in regular time.
V8 were third, followed by Anapol in fourth placing.
A total of 18 teams took part in the men’s category and six teams in the Ladies’.
The top two teams in each category will represent Sibu in the Sarawak Futsal Cup in Kuching, May 25 – 27. Sibu Football Association secretary Abdul Hajis was happy with the overall performance of the teams.
“With futsal fast gaining popularity, the standard of play had also shown a tremendous improvement. I am confident that futsal tournaments here would continue to attract more teams,” said Abdul Hajis.
“Hopefully, more teams from the central region will take the initiative to participate in futsal competitions,” he added.
