Nigerian ObserverFutsal Eagles Walkover GabonThe Futsal National Team, known as Futsal Eagles on Saturday picked automatic ticket to the final qualifying round of the World Cup tournament holding in November 2012 in Thailand.
The national team’s qualification followed the withdrawal of Gabonese national team.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Ademola Olajire, the Chief Media Officer of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Abuja.
Olajire said the Futsal Eagles’ qualification had paved way for the national team to lock horns with Egypt, who whitewashed Tunisia 9-3 on the aggregate.
He said the Futsal Eagles would become the third national team to qualify for the FIFA World Cup this year if it defeats Egypt in the last round of African qualifiers.
“Egypt won 4-1 away in Tunis two weeks ago and on Friday, completed the routing of their North African neighbours with a 5-2 pounding in Cairo.
Olajire said the first leg of the fixture between Nigeria and Egypt would take place in Cairo on June 8.
He added that the second leg slated for the Gymnasium of the National Institute of Sports, National Stadium, and Lagos on June 24.
Meanwhile, the coach of Futsal Eagles, Oladunni Oyekale, says his boys will return to camp in Lagos on May 23 to prepare for the march in Cairo.
“We are coming back to camp on Wednesday; I want to assure Nigerians that we will face the task at hand with full concentration, commitment and confidence.
“The Egyptians are good but they are not unbeatable.’’
