The 13th edition of the futsal tournament for children in special circumstances will kick off on June 1 at Ho Chi Minh City’s Quan Khu 7 Stadium.

According to the Law on Child Protection, Care and Education, children in special circumstances are orphans or those abandoned by parents; those with disabilities; and victims of human trafficking, kidnapping, abuse, or violence.

Titled “2012 Viet Capital Bank Cup,” the tournament attracts 8 teams from different provinces and cities. Host HCMC has two teams, while An Giang Province will join the event for the first time.

Other participants include Hanoi, Da Nang, Gia Lai, the Reformatory 4 in Dong Nai, and Reformatory 5 in Long An.

The teams will be divided into two groups to compete for the tickets to the semifinals.

The organizing board said total cash prize is VND100 million (US$4,800), of which the champion will receive VND30 million. The second and third runner-ups will get VND25 million and VND20 million respectively.

The organizing board will cover all expenses for the participants during their stay in HCMC, besides rewarding the kid players with a trip to Suoi Tien Theme Park.

Hoa Sen Group said at a news conference that they will sponsor VND100 million for one typical squad from the tourney to play a friendly match in Malaysia afterwards. The squad will consist of the best players of the tourney.

Futsal is a variant of football that is played on a smaller pitch and mainly played indoors.
