Gulf Daily NewsSitra book slot in futsal last eightTuesday, June 05, 2012SITRA reached the First Bahrain Futsal League, being held at Khalifa Sports City's Gym in Isa Town, following an emphatic 7-2 win over Al Malkiya in Group 'C'.
It was the third successive win for Sitra, who topped the group with nine points with one match remaining.
Scores were tied 2-2 at half-time. Al Malkiya took the lead through Jaffer Darwish, but Ahmed Antar equalised for Sitra. Kumail Hussain regained Al Malkiya's lead, but against Jaffer Al Attar put the scores level just before the break.
Sitra stamped authority in the second-half where they added five more goals, including a hat-trick by Yasser Abdulla and one each by Hassan Al Makna and Hassan Kadthem.
In the same group, Al Shabab revived their chances with a 3-1 win over Samsung. The victors now have six points, while Samsung stayed on one.
The other game of the day saw East Riffa receive a walkover from the Bahrain Specialist Hospital.
Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK), meanwhile, kept alive their hopes of progressing into the quarter-finals after beating Khaleeji Commercial Bank (KCB) 5-3 in a well-contested Group 'B' tie.
LeadNational futsal team member Hussain Kazerooni gave BBK the lead after just two minutes, but KCB equalised from a penalty kick by Brazilian striker Leandson Da Silva, nicknamed 'Rico'. Ihsan Al Saati regained BBK's lead with two goals to make it 3-1 at the break.
KCB reduced the deficit to a one-goal margin thanks to Rico, then Ahmed Buhazza put the scores back level at 3-3.
BBK came back later in the game and managed to add two more goals through Al Saati and Kazerooni. KCB pressed forward towards the closing stages, but BBK showed solid defence and held on to the full three points.
The victory lifted BBK to six points and share second place with KCB, who have a better goal difference.
Meanwhile, Majestic Cars secured their berth in the quarter-finals with a 9-3 victory over Benefit, thanks to two goals apiece by Yousef Abdulla, Abdulla Al Ali, Hani Hussain and Abdulla Attiya. Nawaf Sultan scored one goal.
The win was the third in a row for Majestic Cars, who are on nine points and share the lead with Diyar Al Muharraq. Benefit, who stayed third with six points, scored through Hazem Mohammed, Abdulla Mattar and Farooq Al Kooheji.
In the same group, Diyar Al Muharraq picked up an emphatic 22-3 win against Information Authority Affairs to top the group on goal difference.
League action continues on Sunday with three matches on the cards. Diyar Al Muharraq take on Majestic Cars in the top-of-Group 'A' clash at 4.45pm. It will be followed by the Al Ahli vs KCB game at 6.30pm. Later, BBK encounter East Riffa in the same group at 8.15pm.
