Cilleros’ contract extended

Kuwait City: Kuwait national futsal team coach Fonseca Cilleros has agreed terms with Kuwait Football Association (KFA) to extend his contract which will see him leading the Kuwait side in the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 in Thailand this November.

Cilleros guided Kuwait to the quarter-finals of the recently concluded AFC Futsal Championship where they succumbed to Australia 3-2 but managed to finish fifth in the tournament meaning Kuwait were the fifth Asian team to join the Futsal World Cup.

Five Asian countries in the likes of Australia, Japan, Iran, Kuwait and hosts Thailand will represent Asia in the World Cup.

Cilleros, whose contract expired immediately after Kuwait’s elimination from the AFC Futsal Championship, had hinted on extension of the contract till the World Cup.

“I had never been to Kuwait before and never handled national team before but once I started working with these players I found that they have immense talents so it’s great to lead them in the World Cup,” Cilleros, who have coached seven top-flight Spanish futsal clubs had told www.the-afc.com.

Cilleros’ goalkeeping coach Carlos Crocna also has been contracted to continue till the World Cup. In one of the active years in futsal, Kuwait are scheduled to organize AFC Club Futsal Championship next month.
