Gulf Daily NewsAl Ahli and BBK reach Futsal League quartersTuesday, June 12, 2012AL AHLI and Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) have booked their places in the quarter-final stage of the First Bahrain Futsal League, despite the former being held to a draw by Gulf Commercial Bank in their last match of Group B.
Al Ahli went into the final round of group games leading Group B with three wins from three but could have been overtaken by both BBK and Gulf Commercial Bank if both of those teams had won by big margins.
As it happened, Al Ahli and their opponents played out a fiercely-contested battle that was deadlocked at 1-1 at half-time thanks to goals from Yacoob Mustafa (al Ahli) and Mahmood Abdul Razak Sharqawi.
The second period provided much of the same, with Saleh Majeed adding a second for Al Ahli and Faisal Mahmood Vlammersa responding for Gulf Commercial Bank.
The 2-2 final score was enough to book Al Ahli a quarter-final date with Luxury Car and with East Riffa conceding a walkover to BBK, the bankers also secured their place in the last eight.
Defence Ministry are another team safely through to the quarter-finals, as they maintained their 100 per cent winning record in Group D with a thumping 9-2 victory over Nomas for Projects.
A first half hat-trick from Hisham Nasser Thabit added to further goals from Ateq Saad Majed, Jassim Ahmed Alrowaie and Ali Mothina Ali gave the Ministry side an emphatic 6-0 lead at the break.
Sayed Ahmed Mohammed and Ahmed Yousuf Kamal finally for the Nomas scoreboard moving in the second period but further goals Thabit, Fawaz Busaqer and a second from Ali saw the Defence Ministry stroll home.
Al Hala look set to join them in the quarter-finals after they recorded a 4-2 win over General Organisation for Social Insurance (GOSI).
Al Hala were 2-0 to the good in the first half thanks to a brace from Abdulaziz bu Khamas and, despite being held 2-2 in the second period, they held on for victory.
Elsewhere this week, Diyar Al Muharraq notched up the biggest win of the round as they thumped fellow Group A qualifiers Luxury Cars 11-1.
Goals from Abdulrahman Al Malki, Ali Abdul Rasool, Mohammed Radi, Mohammed Sultan Abdulaziz, Said Jawad and Jasim Al Jabn did the damage for the victors, with hani Hussein Mubarak providing the only reprieve for Luxury Cars.
Also in Group A, Information Affairs Authority conceded a walkover to Manama.
The final round of the First Bahrain Futsal League will be played out at the Shaikh Khalifa Sports City complex today and tomorrow, with two quarter-final spots still to be decided.
