Gulf Daily NewsAl Hala grab spot in quarter-finalsby
Tom HanrattyThursday, June 14, 2012AL HALA last night secured the eighth and final spot in the quarter-final stage of the First Bahrain Futsal League after they powered to a 5-2 victory over Nomas for Projects at the Shaikh Khalifa Sports City complex in Isa Town.
A brace of goals from Fawzi Akworad in response to one from Hamad Yousuf Kamal for Nomas had Al Hala leading 2-1 at half time.
A double from Abdulaziz bu Khamas did the damage for Al Hala in the second half and when Ziad Essa Al Sheigi scored again near the end, Nomas for Projects, for whom Hamad Mohammed Ali got their second, could find no way back.
The result provided a third win from four outings in Group D for Al Hala, while also putting paid to any chance of Nomas for Projects sneaking through on goal difference.
The only other side capable of overhauling Al Hala and qualifying through Group D at the start of the night had been Umm Al Hassam but their faint hopes were unceremoniously dashed in the first game of the evening by group leaders the Defence Ministry.
Already safely through to the last eight, the Ministry side could have been forgiven for taking it easy last night but nothing could have been further from the truth as they coasted to a 8-3 half-time lead thanks to goals from Jassim Ahmed Al Rowaie, Hisham Nasser Thabit, Ateq Saad Majed, Fawaz bu Saqer, Ahmed Ghalib, Ali Mothina Ali and a brace from Tariq Ahmed Aji.
Umm Al Hassam's goals came from Abdullah Al Qahtani, Yusuf Ahmed and Saad Hamad but remarkably, they had even less to shout about in the second half as the Defence Ministry turned on the style.
Further goals followed from Ali Saleh Ali (3), Thabit (3), Al Rowaie (2), Hamza Khalid Aboud and Bader Mohsen Naji, with Al Qahtani hitting the lone consolation goal for Umm Al Hassam, as the Defence Ministry ran out 18-4 winners in one of the biggest scores in the competition to date.
The quarter-final line-up for the First Bahrain Futsal League has now been completed and will see Diyar Al Muharraq take on Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait and Luxury Cars meet Al Ahli on Saturday, to be followed by Sitra against Al Hala and Al Shabab versus Defence Ministry on Sunday.
The quarter-final second legs will be played out next week.
