The AFC.comYarmouk tune-up with Barcelona tourFriday, 15 June 2012Kuwait City: The AFC Futsal Club Championship host Yarmouk SC of Kuwait have been preparing rigorously to stamp their authority as the hosts of the championship by touring Barcelona.
The Kuwait side have toured the Spanish city under the watch of Brazilian coach Eder De Fabiano Soares Souza and played four friendly matches as the tune-up for the competition. They also played five competitive local matches as part of their preparation for the July 1-6 championship.
A total of eight domestic league champions clubs from across Asia are participating in the third edition of the Championship which started in 2010.
“This is my first competitive international competition and not only me, everyone in the squad is geared up especially because we are the hosts,” the 32-year old Brazilian told www.the-afc.com.
“The favourite in the tournament are the defending champions Nagoya Grampus (Futsalplanet note: Nagoya Oceans) and Iran’s Sanaye Giti Pasand as any side from Iran are always good at this level.
“Our immediate target in the competition is to book a place for the semi-final and then try our best to move further in the tournament,” he added.
The hosts are in Group A which also feature Iran champions Sanaye Giti Pasand and East Zone representatives Thai Son Nam of Vietnam and Qatar Futsal League champions Al Rayyan. Yarmouk open their campaign against Al Rayyan on July 1 followed by subsequent matches against Thai Son Nam and Giti Pasand.
