Lions slain as Northern Kings reign supreme

Monday, 25 June, 2012

U18s show a mouth watering taster of things to come for English Futsal.

As the domestic Futsal season in England draws to a close, it is the nation’s young stars who take centre stage with a series of events leading up to The FA Youth Futsal Festival Finals in Birmingham between 30 June and 1 July.

Starting in March, as regional qualifiers for The FA U18’s Futsal Championships begin, the Youth Futsal season in England runs through until the finals at the National Futsal Centre, an event that is the second largest on our domestic calendar, behind The FA National Futsal League Grand Finals.

As previously mentioned, the U18’s National Championships kicks off the youth Futsal season in England and for 2012, the finals were held prior to the second England and Denmark international at the Sporthouse in Barking at the end of May.

The four winners of the regional qualifying competitions came together for a fantastic day of Futsal action, showcasing the talents and incredible potential that the future generation of English Futsal stars possess.

Myerscough College, the Northern representatives, Oxford Lions from the Midlands and Team Newbury and West London Futsal from two Southern heats who competed for the coveted prize and a day of high octane and extremely tense Futsal action ensued.

Oxford Lions, keen to avenge the disappointment of the senior side who were beaten finalists in the Grand Finals, set the tone for the day with a breathtaking 5-3 victory over a very strong Team Newbury side. Captain Alfee Robbins and the powerful Andreas Vias were again impressive and pivotal as the Lions roared into the National Final.

It was Myerscough who would be their opponents as a flurry of second half goals saw the Northern representatives conquer the impressive West London youngsters, with goals from Jack Hindle, Rhys Turner (2), Tom Graham and Louis Robinson sealing a 5-2 victory for the only side not representing a National League club.

The impressive Turner proved pivotal once more in the final, scoring a hat-trick within the first ten minutes before adding a fourth late on following a Scott Duxbury strike to hand his side a 5-3 triumph over the Midlands club and with it lifting the National title.

It was an impressive display that really capped a fabulous day. The standard of Futsal on show at these events continues to improve and the level of competition seems to be raised with each and every tournament that is played.

Myerscough reigned supreme as the first of the Youth Futsal titles were decided for 2012. All eyes now turn to Birmingham this weekend, as we find out who will join them as Kings of Youth Futsal in 2012.
