La Crosse TribuneTomah squad wins indoor soccer crownA team consisting of seven Tomah High School sophomores and one senior won the tournament championship of an indoor soccer (futsal) league played at Viterbo University in La Crosse.
Tomah played five games in the postseason tournament and defeated the La Crosse Raiders 6-4 in the championship match.
The victory capped a long road back through the losers bracket. Tomah lost its opener to the Raiders 9-5 before stringing together victories over Coulee United (14-6), Sparta The Studs (11-6) and Viroqua Driftless United (9-8).
The Tomah squad won six games during an eight-game regular season that ran from Dec. 1 to Feb. 2. The league consisted of teams from La Crosse, Viroqua, West Salem, Holmen, Onalaska, and Caledonia.
Most of these athletes have played soccer together since they were six years old. All except Danko Dzamba, a senior and Tomah’s exchange student from Slovakia, are planning to play soccer this fall for the Tomah High School squad.
