The victory came after Colombia came out of the group stages undefeated and with a goal difference of 18, having only let in two in the primary stages of the tournament.
Their 6-0 defeat of Uruguay, which carried them to the semifinals, saw Diana Carolina Velez, Catalina Usme, Corina Clavijo, Naila Tatiana Imbachi and Lorena Bedoya score a cascade of goals.
