LEAGUES CONCLUDE IN COSTA RICA, GUATEMALA AS FUTSAL TEAMS BEGIN PREPARATIONS FOR CONCACAF QUALIFIER NEXT YEAR

The respective 2003 National Futsal Leagues in Costa Rica and Guatemala concluded last week as Barrio Peralta dethroned the defending Costa Rican champions Desamparados 7:2 in Gimasio Jesús Jiménez de la Villa Deportiva on 24 October, while Organizacón Contable won the inaugural Liga Guatemalateca de Futsal crown after defeating Supercable Gran Hit 3:1 at the FUTECA Arena on 18 October.

The chapines and ticos begin their preparations for next year's CONCACAF Futsal qualifiers that will advance two teams to the 2004 FIFA World Championship in Chinese Taipei.

Prior to the CONCACAF event in 2004, Costa Rica will start training camp in November playing matches in the interior of the country against regional clubs, while Guatemala is scheduled to compete in a quadrangular tournament along with Canada, Mexico and the host USA in Anaheim, California from 5-7 December 2003.
