Paulo Mota one of the best portuguese futsal players died in the night between 25 and 26/10/2003 at the age of 30. He was travelling by car with his team mate of Modicus, the brazilian Claudinei, when they had an accident due to the rain. They were coming back after the winning match of their club, Modicus, against Sporting de Pombal, in which Mota scored a goal. Paulo Mota died immediately, while Claudinei survived the accident unharmed.

During the next round of Portuguese cup, teams will keep silence for a minute in memory of the player, and the same will do the national team of Orlando Duarte in the qualifying round for Chinese Taipei 2004.
