BAHAMAS FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION LOOKS TO INTRODUCE FUTSAL WITH EIGHT-TEAM TOURNAMENT
BFA (Bahamas Football Association) Officials announced that they will be conducting a Futsal tournament at the New Providence Community Centre on Blake Road, over the Christmas Holiday to introduce the sport to the Bahamas.
The eight-team tournament will also serve as a precursor to a mini-tournament that officials are hoping to establish in the New Year as part of a four-year plan to develop the sport in the Bahamas, which will eventually lead to competing in international events.
The plan calls for the preparation and decision on a proposal to introduce the sport by early 2004, with its full implementation by the summer of 2004.
The conduction of the introductory tournament as well as the mini-tournament in March will allow officials to see the plan in action before making final decisions on how it will be effectively run.
The Christmas tournament is scheduled for 20 December 2003 commenting at 9:00 am, but will be limited to 8 teams for this introductory programme. Information is going out to all clubs to register for this event, but only the first eight teams that register will be allowed to participate.
