First Stage of Quebec Futsal Club Championship Offers SurprisesLENNOXVILLE, QUEBEC (2-27-04) -
Many surprises came out during the first stage of the Quebec Provincial Futsal Clubs Championship. Newcomers FC Jonquière, FC Terrebonne, FC Sherbrooke and former Futsal-FIFA goalkeeper-coach Willy Pacheco's club Montérégie FC Bell/CL Activewear qualified, while FC St-Jérôme and FC Estrie were eliminated.
Québec City FC clearly dominated the first stage, led by Daniel Dubé, who was nominated best player of the tournament.
Challenging Québec City in the Eastern Division going into the next stage are FC Trois-Rivières, FC Jonquière and FC Sherbrooke.
In the Western Division, FC Granby, led by the well-known national Futsal team player Jocelyn Roy, has taken the first position of the group. The are followed by Montérégie FC Bell/CL Activewear and FC Montréal, FC Terrebonne. FC Montréal has in its ranks the national Futsal goalkeeper of El Salvador, Erick Jandres, who has recently immigrated.
The next stage will begin in March, while the Ontario Provincial Futsal Clubs Championship will conclude March 15.
