News from Cyprus 08/03/04There is less than 6 week time left for this exciting season to finish. The new format of games that the Cyprus Football Association has implemented it seems to work excellent and it is expected to produce dramatic final for teasm of division A and B.
In
First division (A), which is consisted of 11 teams, at the end of the regular season best five teams will proceed to the second stage of the competition where they will play each other for the championship. All points from the first round will be carried to the second stage. Positions 6-11 will proceed to the second stage as well and they will compete for which two teams will remain in the First division. The remaining four teams from place 8-11 will be relegated to
Second division (B) for the 2004-2005 season.
So far it seems that the reigning champions of the past years
AGBU Ararat has established a lead of 13 points and it seems that the title will be revalidated. The champion represents Cyprus to the Uefa Futsal competition next season.
In division B the Association has created
two groups of 13 teams for the 2003-2004 season. The first teams of each group will automatically go to the division A and the two runner up teams will battle for the last match which will determine the third team to go to division A. The main attraction of division B is that places 6-13 will have to go to the division C next season. Actually the sixth place teams from Group A and Group B will meet for another exciting game to determine which team goes to division C and which team will remain in division for next season.
So far Group A it seems to be the most interesting one in regards of the first two positions. There are 4 teams Liverpool, Livadiakos, Dynamites and Piacere, fighting for the magic ticket to first division. The finale is expected to be dramatic. On the other group things are clearer and the Cyprus University team is already 9 points ahead and it seems that they will join division a next year.
